Cabinetry Specifications

One of the first items to consider when selecting your kitchen cabinets is deciding between a framed and frameless cabinet.  Our post on the topic helps to clarify the difference between the two.  From a budget standpoint you can expect to pay ten to twenty percent more for framed inset kitchen cabinets.  This is due to the extra time and craftsmanship required in the manufacturing process.  In helping you to make a decision between the two, we recommend browsing our kitchen portfolio to start.  You’ll also want to visit our showroom to see the difference in person.

All of our cabinets come equipped with soft closing doors and drawers and dovetail full-extension drawers.  You can choose between furniture board and plywood for you cabinetry casing.   While plywood is a nice to have with today’s escalating lumber prices furniture board is a smart choice.  Some of our clients like to save by only paying the plywood premium for sink base cabinets.

Storage Solutions

When designing your kitchen we have functionality at top of mind.  You’ll want to think through the purpose behind each kitchen cabinet and how you’ll use it.  Many cabinets can offer a great deal more functionality and usage by adding cabinetry accessories to them.  We recommend downloading the storage solutions checklist from Durusupreme and keep it handy when working with your designer.

Dura Supreme Cabinetry

A popular custom cabinet line offering two lines, Bria and Crestwood.  Dura Supreme’s Bria line is frameless while Crestwood is framed.

Cabinet styles include contemporary, traditional, and transitional.  Dura Supreme offers painted and stained cabinets.  Their wood species include cherry, maple, knotty alder, red oak or quarter sawn red oak, hickory or rustic hickory, shale, walnut, white oak and zebrawood.  Check out the Exotic Veneer options for a high visual impact, available only in Bria Cabinetry.

If you’re looking for a more Euro or contemporary kitchen high gloss and acrylic door styles are available.  Dura Supreme also offerings heirloom and weather cabinetry looks.

New Door Styles Crestwood and Bria

In April 2018 Dura Supreme updated their cabinet door styles, stains and paints.  They now offer five new door styles including the Meridien, Carson, Chelsea, Carson V-Groove, and Avery.  The new kitchen cabinet doors are currently on promotion through 12/31/18.

The Carson door style is our personal favorite, at least, so far.  It’s transitional styling and wider rail and stile version of the Hudson make it a popular choice.  If you like your kitchen cabinets to have a hint of traditionalism we recommend the Chelsea door.  It’s raised center door panel is sleek, the door coordinates with the Carson and Carson V-Groove.  Mixing two or three of these doors in a kitchen is a great way to add variety to your kitchen.  The Meridien door’s transitional and elegant style make it a top contender in the flat panel cabinetry door category.  We’re excited to see the Avery door with it’s modern styling and ‘stepped’ stiles emphasizing vertical lines.

Kitchen Cabinet Finish Trend Direction

Dura Supreme’s cutting edge research is seeing a trend that is moving towards a more natural look.  Kitchens are becoming lighter, warmer and far less pigmented.  Yellows, reds, and oranges are on the way out being replaced by warm grays, true browns, and raw wood looks.  To stay on trend Dura Supreme is now offering new kitchen cabinet stains.  They include: Brindle, Sesame, Pebble, Heather, Harbor, Coriander, and Feather.  New glaze options include Feather / Black Accent, Linen White / Platinum Glaze, and Linen White Pewter Accent.  The new stains and glazes are right on point with kitchen cabinet trends.

Sustainability & Stewardship

Dura Supreme Cabinets are certified under the Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP) administered by the independent KCMA (Kitchen Manufacturers Association).  Dura Supreme supports the Hardwood Forestry Fund (HFF).  The HFF mission is to create sustainable forests for future generations.  Dura Supreme they will plant a tree for every kitchen produced.  That might be reason enough for you to choose Dura Supreme for your kitchen.

Here are a few ways Durasupreme is leading the way in sustainability,

  • Sourcing hardwoods from sustainable domestic forests
  • Use of cutting edge technology
  • Recycled wood fibers for composite cabinetry construction

Considering a contemporary kitchen design?  You may want to look at bamboo if you have sustainability in mind.  Bamboo is a very fast growing wood species.  It matures in 5 to 7 years and can regrow from the same root even faster.  The root system stays in tact during regeneration, which prevents soil erosion.
